Precasa toddler classroom at Cedarbrook Montessori in Oakville
18 months – 2.5 years

In Precasa

Everything is within a toddler’s reach, with real objects used instead of plastic substitutes. Educators allow children to attempt things at their own pace rather than doing them for the child. Toilet learning follows each child’s readiness, with no set deadline.

2.5 – 4 years

In Casa

Each room is led by a trained Montessori guide. Children choose their own work across five areas — practical life, sensorial, language, mathematics and culture — and stay with it for as long as it holds their concentration. For a child who needs to move, that freedom can make all the difference.

4 – 6 years

In Senior Casa

The Senior Casa year completes the cycle, building confidence in reading, number sense, and the skills children need as they prepare for Grade 1. Children become more independent in their work, learn to take responsibility for their learning, and feel comfortable asking for help when they need support.

Outdoor time

Children go outside every day if the weather permits—and at CedarBrook School, Oakville with the right clothing, that means most days.
Outdoor time is not a break from learning. Gross motor skills, negotiation, and risk assessment develop outdoors in ways they cannot indoors, which is why outdoor time is part of the schedule twice a day: before lunch and again in the afternoon.
We will tell you exactly what to send for each season, so your child is comfortable in February as well as June. If you are unsure, ask—it is a question we are asked every autumn, and we would rather answer it twice.

FAQs

What are your hours?
Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 6:00pm. The school day runs 8:30am to 4:30pm, with care available either side. We operate year-round apart from statutory holidays, so there is no summer gap to arrange separately.
How many children attend?
Our Oakville campus is licensed for 75 children — 35 in pre-Casa and 40 in Casa. Ratios follow Ontario licensing requirements for each age group, and we will talk you through the staffing in your child’s specific room when you visit.
What age can my child start?
Pre-Casa takes children from 18 months, in a toddler room built for that age rather than a scaled-down preschool room. Casa begins at around 2.5 years/30 months.
How long is the waitlist?
It depends on the age band rather than the school. Because classrooms are mixed-age, places open when individual children move up, so mid-year openings are more common than most families expect. Ask us what is open in your child’s room specifically.
Are you a licensed child care centre?
Yes. We are licensed under Ontario’s Child Care and Early Years Act, which sets our ratios, safety procedures and record-keeping. Our licence is displayed at the school and we are happy to show you the paperwork when you visit.
Do you have another location?
Yes — our Ajax campus in Durham Region runs the same three programs with the same approach to school policies, outdoor time and extended care.
