Our Montessori school in Ajax is licensed for 57 children. Montessori programs group children by age bands rather than by single years, allowing children to remain with the same educators and classmates as they progress through the Montessori cycle.

18 months – 2.5 years

Precasa

The PreCasa environment gives young children the freedom to begin doing things for themselves. With child-sized materials and everyday activities within reach, children can pour, carry, tidy and care for their surroundings with growing confidence. These simple experiences help build independence, coordination and a sense of responsibility from the very beginning.

Casa

Each Casa room is led by a trained Montessori guide who observes each child closely and offers guidance when it is needed. Across practical life, sensorial, language, mathematics and culture, children build new skills through hands-on experiences, gaining confidence as they learn to work independently and care for their environment.

The Kindergarten year completes the Montessori cycle, giving children the time and space to strengthen their confidence as learners. They take greater responsibility for their work, learn to see tasks through to completion, collaborate with others and feel comfortable seeking support when they need it — helping them make a confident transition to Grade 1.

Outdoor

Children go outside every day if the weather permits—and at CedarBrook School, Ajax with the right clothing, that means most days.
Outdoor time is not a break from learning. Gross motor skills, negotiation, and risk assessment develop outdoors in ways they cannot indoors, which is why outdoor time is part of the schedule twice a day: before lunch and again in the afternoon.
We will tell you exactly what to send for each season, so your child is comfortable in February as well as June. If you are unsure, ask—it is a question we are asked every autumn, and we would rather answer it twice.

Questions from Ajax families

What are your hours?
Monday to Friday, 7:30am to 6:00pm. The school day runs 8:30am to 4:30pm, with care available either side. We operate year-round apart from statutory holidays, so there is no summer gap to arrange separately.
How many children are in each classroom?
Our Ajax campus is licensed for 57 children in total — 25 in Pre-Casa across two rooms, and the remainder in three Casa classrooms. Ratios follow Ontario licensing requirements for each age group, and we are happy to talk through the staffing in your child’s specific room when you visit.
What age can my child start?
Pre-Casa takes children from 18 months, in a toddler room built for that age rather than a scaled-down preschool room. Casa begins at around 2.5 years. There is no single right age — readiness to separate for part of the day matters more than the birthday.
Can my child start mid-year?
Often yes. Because Montessori classrooms are mixed-age, a place opens when an individual child moves up rather than only in September. Call us and ask what is open in your child’s age band specifically — the answer differs between rooms.
Do you provide meals?
Yes. Hot lunch and snacks are catered from Wholesome Catering – All their menus and snacks are prepared in accordance with the Canada Food Guide and CCEYA. We are following guidelines set out by ODPH (Ontario Dietitians and Public Health so there is no packed lunch to remember at 6am. Allergies and dietary requirements are managed individually.s
Which areas do you serve?
Ajax primarily, with families travelling from Pickering, Whitby and Oshawa. We also have a campus in Oakville.
Are you a licensed child care centre?
Yes. We are licensed under Ontario’s Child Care and Early Years Act, which sets our ratios, safety procedures and record-keeping. Our licence is displayed at the school and we are happy to show you the paperwork when you visit.
